The Finnish government will fly the Ukrainian flag at Senate Square on Sunday marking the Ukrainian Independence Day, said the government in a press release.
The Finnish flag will be flown at the Government Palace. The Ukrainian flag will be flown at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs’ main building Merikasarmi, which will also be illuminated in blue and yellow in the evening.
The steps of Senate Square will be blanketed in a sea of sunflowers in honour of the independence day event.
The event, which is open to the people, will begin at Senate Square at 15.00. It is being organised by the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Helsinki, the Ukrainian Association in Finland, and Mothersforpeace, in cooperation with the City of Helsinki, the Prime Minister’s Office, and the Embassy of Ukraine in Finland.
Finland’s state leadership will attend events marking Ukraine’s independence day in Helsinki.
“The common goal of the West is to achieve a just peace in Ukraine. That is what we are working for. Finland stands with Ukraine. Today, tomorrow and in the future. For as long as is necessary,” said Prime Minister Petteri Orpo.
He is also scheduled to speak at an open event commemorating Ukrainian independence day.
