Russian military says take 2 settlements in Donetsk region

The Russian Defense Ministry said Saturday that its forces have taken control of the settlements of Kleban-Byk and Sredneye (Serednje) in the Donetsk region, reported Xinhua.

"Thanks to the decisive operations carried out by units of the Southern Group of Forces, the settlement of Kleban-Byk in the Donetsk has been liberated," it said.

Meanwhile, the Western Group of Forces also "freed the settlement of Sredneye (Serednje) in the Donetsk," it added.

A Ukrainian MiG-29 fighter jet crashed overnight between Friday and Saturday, killing one pilot, the Ukrainian Air Force said in a statement.

The aircraft went down while approaching to land after a combat mission, according to the statement on Facebook. The cause of the crash is under investigation.

The incident follows the loss of a Mirage-2000 fighter jet last month, when the pilot ejected safely.

Meanwhile, Russia said Saturday that over the past 24 hours, it shot down four Ukrainian guided aerial bombs and 160 drones.

The Russian Defense Ministry said its air defense systems intercepted 33 Ukrainian drones over the country's western border regions.

"On-duty air defense systems downed 13 Ukrainian fixed-wing unmanned aerial vehicles, 12 over the Bryansk Region and one over the Kaluga Region" between 9:30 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. Moscow Time (0630 – 0900 GMT), said the ministry.

It added that 20 more fixed-wing drones were destroyed within the following two hours — eight over Bryansk, seven over Smolensk, three over Kursk and two over Kaluga.
