Tallinn Zoo, which has catered to animal lovers for more than eight decades, has become one of the top entertainment attractions for Tallinn residents and domestic and international tourists.
More than a thousand people rush to the zoo every day to watch more than 7,000 animals of 345 species, the zoo authorities said.
Official sources said that 3,66,113 people visited the zoo in 2024 and the number was 1,69,930 in the first six months of this year.
The zoo, established on August 25, 1939, focuses on nature education, direct conservation, research and educational recreation for visitors with the missions of “caring” and “teaching to care.”
Many people, especially families with children, enjoy watching the animals that include polar bears, rhinos, elephants, peacocks, birds and fish.
A woman, who took her two children there told the Daily Finland that they often visited the zoo as the children like animals very much.
A family from Finland said that they visited the zoo whenever they visited Estonia.
“We have arrived in Tallinn on a three-day visit. The zoo was on our priority list during our stay here,” a Finnish tourist told Daily Finland.
Anita Tamm, communications specialist of the zoo told Daily Finland that the zoo was more popular with tourists, particularly during the summer.
“The zoo is definitely more popular with tourists in the summer. This year, we have especially seen a rise in the number of tourists from farther away. We have always had a lot of visitors from Finland. They are very important to us,” Tamm said.
“We are always happy to see Finnish tourists visiting us to see the polar bears, rhinos and elephants. We have four young polar bears who are very active and love to play,” the specialist added.
