Haller leaves Dortmund and joins Dutch side Utrecht

Forward Sebastien Haller is leaving Borussia Dortmund to join Dutch side FC Utrecht, the Bundesliga team said in a statement on Monday, reported dpa.

Haller has already played for Utrecht between 2015 and 2017, and he spent the second part of last season on loan at the Eredivisie club.

The player signed a contract until summer 2026 in Utrecht. Dortmund did not disclose any details about the transfer fee. According to media reports, the Germans will pay the forward a compensation to save on his salary following his departure.

"Sebastien has made history here. He fought his cancer with impressive strength," Dortmund sporting director Sebastian Kehl said.

Haller had moved to Dortmund from Ajax in 2022. He played in 33 Bundesliga games, netting nine goals, and six Champions League games for Dortmund.

He was diagnosed with a malignant testicular tumour in July 2022 and returned to the pitch in January 2023.
