Dortmund profit down, turnover minus transfers up

Borussia Dortmund have recorded a significantly lower profit in the past season compared to 2023-24 but at the same time achieved record turnover without factoring in transfer income, reported dpa.

Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke said on Friday at the club's news conference on their finances in the past season that profit after tax amounted to €6.5 million ($7.6 million), down from €44.3 a year ago.

Managing director for finances Thomas Tross said that almost the entire profit will be going to Dortmund's shareholders.

The 2024 figure included Jude Bellingham's €100 million move to Real Madrid while lesser transfer income was achieved in the past season, and the reported €65 million Dortmund got from Chelsea for Jamie Gittens this summer will be part of the 2025-26 figures.

Turnover without transfer income rose 3.3% to a record €526 million. Including transfers, the figure was €589.6 million, down from €639 million a year ago.

Dortmund said not reaching the Champions League final like in 2024, which also led to lower merchandising income, were other factors.

"We don't want to reinvent Borussia Dortmund, but rather develop it further. We still have incredible potential and are in a position to inspire even more people and partners," managing director Carsten Cramer said. "We are much, much more than just a football club."

Watzke, who is also a top official at the German Football League and a German Football Federation vice president, appeared for the last time as CEO at the news conference after two decades but is running for the presidency at the club in autumn.

He however said that he would withdraw his candidacy if the election committee proposed incumbent Reinhold Lunow for another term. Lunow had originally not planned to run again.
