A woman and her boyfriend were injured when the ex-husband of the woman attacked them with sharp weapon in Tampere on Saturday afternoon, police said in a press release on Sunday.
The incident took place at about 4:20 p.m. when the man suddenly attacked them with a knife at Keskustori Square in the city.
Responding to an alarm police and emergency service people rushed to the spot and sent the woman to hospital in a critical condition.
The injury of her partner, however, was minor and he was given first aid.
Police conducted extensive search at the locality and nearby area after the incident and arrested the suspect from the intersection of Näsilinnankatu and Satakunnankatu within about 30 minutes of the attack.
Police did not divulge the detail identities of the suspect and the victims but said that the suspect was the former husband of the woman.
After the preliminary investigation police said that the motive of the attack was a sequel to personal relationship between the attacker and the woman.
Earlier in October 2024, the South Savo District Court issued a restraining order to protect the woman from the suspect, but the suspect attacked the woman violating the court order.
The Central Finland Police are investigating into the incident as two attempted murders.
