The Ministry for Foreign Affairs on Thursday summoned the Israeli ambassador to Finland over Israel’s plans to take over Gaza City, said the ministry.
Finland also expressed deep concern over advance the E1 settlement plan by Israel and called for the unhindered access of humanitarian aid to Gaza in line with international law, the ministry wrote in a post on its social media platform X.
“The Ministry for Foreign Affairs summoned the Israeli ambassador to express Finland’s deep concern over Israel’s plans to take over Gaza City and advance the E1 settlement plan. Finland called for the unhindered access of humanitarian aid to Gaza in line with international law,” the ministry wrote in the post.
Earlier on August 15, Foreign Minister Elina Valtonen expressed profound concern over the Israeli plan to advance settlement construction in the E1 area of the occupied West Bank.
On August 14, European Union (EU) foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas urged Israel to drop plans to advance settlement construction in the E1 area of the occupied West Bank, warning the move would violate international law and irreparably damage prospects for a two-state solution.
The E1 area, a stretch of land east of Jerusalem between the city and the settlement of Ma'ale Adumim, is regarded as especially contentious because construction there would effectively cut off East Jerusalem from the northern West Bank. Plans for building in the area have been frozen for years, largely due to international opposition.
