Stubb censures creating famine in Gaza, urges Israel to stop war

President Alexander Stubb on Friday condemned the inhuman “man-made famine” in Gaza and urged the Israeli government to allow the UN and international NGOs do their job and deliver life-saving aid without delay.

“The suffering of civilians in Gaza is becoming increasingly inhumane. We are witnessing an unacceptable and shameful man-made famine,” Stubb wrote in a post on his social media platform X.

He said that the Israeli government's model for delivering humanitarian aid is not working and vital aid is not reaching civilians and hundreds of people have been shot while seeking for food.

“The war must end now. The people in Gaza are paying too high a price. We call on the parties to agree immediately on a ceasefire and the release of hostages whose families continue to suffer as well,” the President wrote.

He also said Finland is committed to the two-state model in accordance with UN resolutions.

“In line with its stated positions, Finland will consult closely with key European allies on next steps,” Stubb added in his post.

French President Emmanuel Macron, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz on Friday issued a joint declaration urging an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, the unconditional release of all hostages, and the lifting of restrictions on humanitarian aid.

Earlier on Thursday, Macron announced that France will officially recognize the State of Palestine during the upcoming 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA 80) in September.
