Passengers evacuated after fire at Tallinn-Helsinki cruise ship

A fire broke out on the car desk of a cruise ship near the Helsinki Port´s West Terminal early Thursday night, said the Port of Helsinki in a press release.

The fire took place at a bus at about 12:30 a.m. when the Helsinki bound ship named Tallink Megastar coming from Tallinn was about to arrive at the terminal 2 (T2) of the Helsinki Port.

The ship’s crew, however, began firefighting immediately after detecting the fire and contained it.

Responding to an alarm, the Helsinki City Rescue Department arrived at the port and waiting for the arrival of the ship.

All passengers of the ship were safely evacuated, and no one was injured.

The reason behind the fire could not be known immediately.
