Mainz midfielder Nadiem Amiri has revealed he was the victim of xenophobic abuse on social media. "No words for such people," the player said on Monday evening on Instagram, where he posted a screenshot of the offensive message he received, reported dpa.
Amiri scored the winner in Mainz's 1-0 victory against Dynamo Dresden in the German Cup on Monday.
His case is the third one following the first round of the Cup, which was overshadowed by allegations of racist abuse by fans during the weekend.
On Sunday, in the middle of the second half of lower-league Eintracht Stahnsdorf against second-tier Kaiserslautern, a visiting player who was warming up on the sideline appeared to be insulted from the crowd.
Thanks to the quick intervention of spectators and security at the Karl Liebknecht Stadium in Potsdam, the perpetrator was identified. The match, which Kaiserslautern won 7-0, continued without interruption.
Second-tier Schalke's 1-0 extra-time win at fourth-division Lok Leipzig was suspended briefly after Schalke's Christopher Antwi-Adjei had a confrontation with fans.
Leipzig said racist abuse could not be confirmed by anyone else, but the player was adamant afterwards.
"It's not acceptable, not in this day and age, not at all," said Antwi-Adjei, who reported the incident to the assistant referee.
After the short suspension, Antwi-Adjei was booed every time he touched the ball by Leipzig fans.
The German Football Federation has said it opened investigations into the incidents.
