Finland sees more bankruptcies in July, new companies in Q2

A total of 251 bankruptcy proceedings were instigated in July 2025, which is 26 more than in the corresponding period one year earlier, according to Statistics Finland.

The number of staff-years in enterprises that filed for bankruptcy totalled 930, which is five staff-years fewer than in July 2024.

The 12-month moving annual change in instigated bankruptcy proceedings was nine per cent in July 2025.

Eleven enterprises in manufacturing, 32 in trade and 45 in construction activities filed for bankruptcy.

Meanwhile, a total of 16,955 new enterprises were registered during the second quarter of 2025.

Compared to the corresponding period of last year, the number of registrations went up by 20 per cent.

Of the registered enterprises 5,267 were limited companies and 11,580 were natural persons.

During the second quarter of 2025, altogether 12 per cent more limited companies were registered than in the corresponding period of the year before.

The increase in the number of registrations is mainly caused by the multiplication of registrations by transportation, post and courier enterprises.
